Hush Upcoming Horror Movie

April 20, 2016 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

Mike Flanagan, the director of Oculus, has debuted his second feature film, a new scary movie called Hush. This low-budget film he co-wrote with his wife, Kate Siegel is causing quite a stir in the horror world. The movie stars Siegel as the main character, with Samantha Sloyan from Area 407, John Gallagher Jr. from 10 Cloverfield Lane, and Michael Trucco from Battlestar Galactica.

The movie is about a deaf writer named Maddie, who lives a life of seclusion as she finishes typing her latest novel. She has almost no contact with the outside world aside from the occasional visit from a local girlfriend and talking to friends via text or email.

The movie trailer highlights some of the fear to come by beginning with a mysterious gloved hand stealthily taking a cell phone off an end table. Maddie is typing away on her laptop when she starts receiving creepy messages sent from her cell phone. She begins feeling even more threatened when she receives pictures taken of herself sitting there in her living room. As she begins searching her home, she sees the masked stranger waving her cell phone at her from outside her open front door. She rushes to her door to close and lock it while he darts toward it.

The stalker continues to do what he can to block her from contacting anyone for help. He persistently tries to gain entry into her home against her will. As if home-intrusion and stalking aren’t scary enough, Maddie can’t hear him coming. She must do everything in her power to defend herself against the man in a white mask as he tries to use her hearing deficit against her.

The film premiered at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas on March 12th and Netflix apparently was impressed. The on-demand movie provider didn’t waste any time making a deal; the movie has just been released on Netflix.

Exorcist TV Series Wants To Spin Your Head

April 20, 2016 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

Ready to get creeped out from your own living room? Fox is making a pilot inspired by the famous book by William Peter Blatty known as “The Exorcist.”

You might be thinking, “but I’ve already seen the movie and read the book,” Fox is promising a brand new take on the story and since it’s a series, you can count on it being inspired by the book, but not an exact duplication.

Even though right now the show isn’t officially a series order, just a pilot, the probability for it being picked-up is there. The exorcist movie is considered to be one of the scariest movies of all time, so the there is potential for a successful modern-day interpretation of some awesomely horrific material.

The the right people are in place to make it happen.  Rise of the Planet of the Apes director, Rupert Wyatt is bringing his vision for a psychological thriller to life on the small screen. Geena Davis, the female lead from Beetlejuice will be playing the character known as “Angela” in the possible Fox series. Angela is a woman fighting to stay strong in her faith while her family life is in turmoil. She has horrific recurring dreams about a demon, leading her to believe it’s a sign of what’s wrong. Ben Daniels, who portrayed Adam Galloway for two seasons on Netflix’s award-winning series House of Cards will be playing the role of Father Marcus, a religious leader hell-bent on performing exorcisms even without the support of his church.

Since it’s still in the begining stages, horror fans will have to bite their nails in anticipation of the pilot convincing fox executives to order a full series, but things are looking up…or maybe sinister is the better word!

Floating Rose

He loved so strongly and would stop at nothing to take what he wanted.

Was it her porcelain skin? Her silky long hair? No, nothing on the outside could entice him. What he wanted was inside, ticking with every moment at her very core. Her heart.

As he drew her into an embrace, she caught a glimpse of his knife. It was too late. He cut out her heart, leaving a hole in the shape of a blood red rose.

Placing her body in the water to sink to the depths, he felt complete. Her heart was his at last.

Monster Book of Movie Monster Trivia (Book Review)

Monster-Book-of-Movie-Monster-Trivia-coverGet ready for a different type of reading experience with The Monster Book of Movie Monster Trivia. Compiled and written by Philip Cerreta, fans of all the gory monster films that range back as far as 1968 will have a great time reading through the pages. His writing style is casual and entertaining while his attention to detail is impressive.

The first chapter of the book is dedicated to everything zombie. From old favorites like Night of the Living Dead to low-budget cult gems such as Zombie Strippers, Cerreta takes trivia to the next level. Questions you probably didn’t think about, like why there was such a low number of morbidly obese zombies in Zombieland, is going to come your way. The book continues in neatly organized categories and tackles just about every type of horror scenario that can be found in a movie.

For example, the second chapter is focused on monsters while chapter three covers blood sucking vampires and dead bodies. There’s even a section for psychos and fairytale based creatures. In fact, I was a little surprised to see Harry Potter more than once. Cerreta even gives the aliens a bit of time in the limelight. So if you have a favorite horror category then you’ll find it in this book.

First of all, Cerreta deserves credit for compiling a trivia book based solely on horror movies. It’s not something you see every day and the topic alone is enough to create anticipation. However, don’t expect a typical trivia book. The author is very eccentric and obviously very passionate, which create a mixture of questions and some personal observations.

His style of writing is very relaxed and entertaining as if to create a fun atmosphere while the reader tries to reach back into those memories and find the answer. In between the trivia, he adds bits of humor and insight, but this can make things a little confusing. At some moments, it’s a little difficult to distinguish between the question and his thoughtful contributions.

It should be noted that The Monster Book of Movie Monster Trivia isn’t going to fall into everyone’s taste. This is mainly due to the way Cerreta delivers the questions. The whole book through I got a feeling that the author wasn’t mainly focused on questioning the reader. Instead, it was more a journey of enlightenment about things I didn’t stop to consider. I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t seen all of the movies mentioned in the book, but the author has sparked an interest to get it done. For the most part, I regard the book as a way to make questions more fun, although the balance between clarity and fun isn’t always perfect.

This obviously isn’t meant to be a literary masterpiece or something that should be taken too seriously. It’s meant to entertain horror fans who are methodical about movies within the genre while testing some knowledge. Some of the questions are going to be a little more difficult to grip than others. For horror junkies it could become one of your favorite books.
