Rapid Fire Comedy Clown

February 25, 2015 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

Rapid-Fire-Comedy-ClownA classic clown face only visible to the victim forms the center of the picture. From the back of his head comes a glimmering light, most likely indicating the effects associated with dying. The chambers of the guns are still glowing after releasing a rain of bullets, an obviously pleasant experience for the hooded killer.

This pencil based drawing has a deliberate adolescent appearance. The fictional/cartoon style brings out the childish obsession of playing with real guns without the fear of consequence, but at the same time there is sophistication within the lines. The shadows are presented as rough and impulsive, although a deeper look reveals the strategic spacing between the lines, their singular direction and the sections where they are placed took some planning.

The basic approach and the lack of detail in the picture reveals the basic needs of the character, which is to intimidate and kill. There is just enough substance to proclaim his sick smile and insane eyes, but not enough to positively identify him in a police lineup.

Precious Treats

February 25, 2015 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

Feb-2015-1

The milky white skin and soft blonde hair cover the darkness of a woman possessed. She has been wronged in so many ways that it took her over the edge mortals typically don’t jump from. With her eyes shifted to the side, she isn’t contemplating whether or not to kill her sleeping victim. Instead, she is divided between how she is going to slaughter him.

Using her stunning good looks she entices any man she wants. Her precious treats are chosen with specific characteristics, because as everyone knows, not everyone can taste the same. They have to be handsome and easy to fool. Their hearts have to be young enough in order to pump blood like fountains from their veins.

She isn’t asking for much, just a little love with which she can devour every last piece. Her black apparel is a sign of mourning, and until she can get past her need to kill as she pleases it is going to stay in place.

Ascendance (Book Review)

February 24, 2015 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

featured-reviews-smal
Ascendance-coverC. Jones makes her debut with the short story entitled “Ascendance”, and what a debut it is. It’s graphical and dark nature is enough to make veterans like Stephen King take another look at true horror. Within the pages of this book is a story that is very difficult to read. Not because it doesn’t make sense or the writing is awful, but because it’s just so horrific. Reading the book in one setting will take nerves of steel.

Landon is a ten year old boy that grew up in very difficult circumstances. Being the object of torture for his parents all his life, his situation finally reaches a very painful climax. After being beaten to death and buried in the backyard he lands in purgatory where a keeper called Ramiel comforts him. Landon is also told that in order to go to heaven he has to get rid of all the vengeance and hatred in his heart. Unfortunately the devil isn’t going to make things easy for Landon, seeing as Landon’s soul holds the key to something much bigger.

Meanwhile, his mother Lisa is planning her big escape from her abusive husband Garret. His obsession with Lisa has led to ten years of hell. Where Lisa once cared about her child, she has lost all emotional attachment. However, everything starts to escalate as Garret comes home to find Lisa cheating on him. This of course is the trigger to several bad things.

The first thing that should be noted about the book is that readers shouldn’t expect too many moments of happiness and if those moments occur they are short lived. It was written from a very dark place and it’s not surprising to read about how Jones had to take constant breaks in order to finish it (About Author). With the great levels the horror genre has reached thus far, Jones has managed to come up with a level of her own.

From the start the reader is thrown into a nightmare where there doesn’t seem to be an end to the violence and grotesqueness. For readers that are sensitive this book will be a challenge to finish, due to the graphic build-up. Jones doesn’t spare any mercy for her characters as she takes them through a life-changing journey without them having to leave the house.

As for the narrative voice and the overall tone of the writing, the author does a brilliant job. Although her characters might not be colorful, their representation of what is wrong with this world shines through in more ways than one. She digs into a very dangerous state of mind where there is creative torture tactics that really manage to unnerve the reader.

Horror fans that love deep, dark and very disturbing stories probably won’t be able to stop reading. Instead of just focusing on the typical violence and horror, the story speaks to the value we place on revenge. More specifically, how revenge can bite you in the backside if you are a religious person. Apart from some scenarios that don’t always make sense it’s a very intense short novel that shows great potential from a debut writer.

Attack-by-Levitation
As you look up and experience the horror floating above you, you’ll know you’re at her mercy. She levitates further towards you, her stunning appearance and tousled hair now marred by dripping blood. It’s unexpected that such a slight figure could cause harm to a person, proving how the darkest of powers are behind her activity. Still floating, she reaches out, her pale hands gradually nearing your body. She thrives on fear, preying on those at their weakest as they fall to the ground, paralyzed with dread, with no-one around to liberate you from her terrorizing grasp. Before you can scream, she’ll inflict torture on your body as you writhe in pain, longing to escape her wrath. But will she let you live or leave you to fade into the darkness? That’s up to her to decide.

Chrysalis Retitled: BATTLE APOCALYPSE Set for Distribution

February 16, 2015 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

Battle-Apocalypse -DVD-ArtworkBarnholtz Entertainment and Cinedigm bring the acclaimed Glass CityFilms/Huckpoten Entertainment production to DVD

The award-winning post-apocalyptic zombie film Chrysalis, following a successful run at film festivals across the country, will be released in North America as Battle Apocalypse by Barnholtz Entertainment via Cinedigm. It will be available for purchase on DVD starting on February 24, in addition to its already-available digital form.

Funded entirely by Kickstarter donations and serving as a prime example of the new wave of crowdfunding sweeping the indie film community, Battle Apocalypse is a showcase for Glass City Films, the award-winning Chicago-based company, and for the incredibly talented cast and crew available in the Midwest, including award-winning actors Sara Gorsky (Best Actress: NYC Horror Fest, Tucson Terrorfest, Miami SciFi Fest, NOLA Horror) and Cole Simon (Best Actor: Trail Dance Film Festival). Glass City Films founder and Battle Apocalypse director John Klein says, “We’ve had an amazing groundswell of support, first through the Kickstarter campaign and now out on the festival circuit. We have always put Midwest talent on par with what’s available on the coasts, and this film really showcases what we have to offer here.”

Cast on the surface as a zombie-centric horror film, Battle Apocalypse – produced in association with Huckpoten Entertainment and written and lensed by Ben Kurstin – soon reveals itself to be more about the drama of survival in a harsh world than the guts and gore traditionally associated with the genre. As viewers follow Josh (Simon) and Penelope (Gorsky) through a post-apocalyptic world decades removed from the outbreak of an infection, the most terrifying aspect for audiences will be the snapshot they see of the future their cities might encounter. When the nomadic duo rescue the mysterious Abira (Tanya Thai McBride) and slowly determine what secrets she may or may not be hiding, the true terror begins.

As Chrysalis, the film is already available on VHX at www.TheRestAreDead.com and on Vimeo On Demand for streaming or purchase. The film has won several awards and screened at dozens of film festivals, including the Wasteland Film Festival, the New York City Horror Film Festival, and the NOLA Horror Film Festival. Beginning February 24, Battle Apocalypse will be available at various retailers in-store and online, including Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon.com, K-Mart, and Movies Unlimited, and several others. Both available versions include behind-the-scenes features.

Klein says, “We were incredibly ambitious from start to finish with this project. We believed in Ben’s great script and story, and knew we could do the film at a certain cost and make it look amazing regardless of the bottom line. And we’re so proud and honored that Barnholtz Entertainment recognized the quality of our film and saw fit to give it a wider release through Cinedigm!”
