“Midnight Man” Filming Underway!

April 20, 2016 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

Filming is underway in Manitoba, Canada for an independent horror movie called “Midnight Man.” The production crew has been tight-lipped about the upcoming film, but there has been credible speculations about what to expect. An Irish movie by the same name was released in 2013, so this film will very likely be a North American-style remake.

The Irish film was about a naive girl forced to spend Halloween alone at her grandmother’s house. She begins looking for a remedy for her boredom and admits to a friend on the phone that she adores the rush of a good scare. She paces her grandmother’s home, reenacting the classic Bloody Mary summoning spell, but when nothing interesting comes of it, she goes searching for a new activity to occupy herself. The thrill-seeking teenager discovers a Pagan game in which she can summon the mysterious Midnight Man. After inviting the mysterious entity into the home, the goal is to survive the night by evading his tricks and wickedness, armed only with a mere circle of salt. The girl soon finds that her seemingly-innocent game could be something far more sinister.

What is official is that two of the best horror actors in the business have signed on to the film. Robert Englund, aka Freddy Krueger will be starring in Midnight Man, though it hasn’t been announced what character he’ll be playing. It won’t be the villain; that role has been filled by Kyle “Too Tall” Strauts. The 6’9″ actor is no stranger to the horror scene and was a stuntman in Cabin Fever. Also starring in the upcoming indie is iconic scream queen, Lin Shaye. Shaye has appeared in plenty of horror flicks including Insidious, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Ouija. With a terrific team of seasoned artists, Midnight Man is sure to be worth the watch.

First Installment in “The Shamed Series” to be Released

February 25, 2016 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

In the Mind of Revenge an intimate look into the heart of vengeance

In-The-Mind-Of-Revenge-book-coverAre you ready for a tale of hate, lies and murder? Liv Hadden ’ s debut novel In the Mind of Revenge (March 5, 2016) is a blunt, fantastically gruesome look at retribution.  Raw, vivid, honest, fast-paced and beautifully vulgar, this thrilling suspense is sure to have you emotionally twisted from beginning to end.

In the first installment of The Shamed Series, Hadden takes a close look into how monsters are born. Set in a society that glorifies ‘normal’ and demonizes different, this dark tale follows ‘Shame’ on an emotionally wild ride of vengeance and desperation. Hadden sheds light on heavier issues like bullying, gender fluidity and sexuality and although dark in nature, the message of the book is clear; that revenge isn’t simple or worth it, and pain and hurt can only be healed when a person is ready to address those feelings.

The vulnerable, first-person narrative of the story has a big part in the delivery. “I chose to write the book this way specifically so it really would be a dive into the mind of revenge,” said Hadden. “Because we have such an intimate look at the deepest, darkest places of Shame’s mind, it’s hard to decide from page to page whether you hate or have empathy for Shame.” And Hadden keeps you guessing. Along with Shame’s angsty and somewhat pompous ego, the most masterful part of Hadden’s main character is the surrounding ambiguity. Shame lacks a clear identity, ethnicity and gender, which encourages the reader to step uncomfortably into Shame’s shoes and really see and feel everything as the character does.

Liv Hadden
Author Liv Hadden

Hadden started writing at an early age and has kept her craft sharp through ghostwriting, marketing and working on her novels into the wee hours of the morning. Born in Burlington, Vermont, she has since settled in Austin, TX with her husband and two dogs, Madison and Samuel.

HorrorPalace.com will be releasing its In The Mind of Revenge review on March 5 when the book is released so that you will be able to get your copy immediately!  We also have a Q&A with Hadden as well.

Here is what others are saying about In The Mind of Revenge (provided by publisher):

“ MIND BLOWING! From the first sentence, “I am ugly.” to the last sentence, “I see you.” this
book had me glues to the pages. I read this book in one night.”

“ Fantastic roller coaster of a book. VERY visual. There were moments where I was too in the moment and felt as if I was truly there.”

“The ambiguity that surrounds the main character’s gender/sexuality is a welcome change. It allows you to get wrapped up in the character’s development.”

“It’s like Girl with the Dragon Tattoo meets Middle Sex. The gender ambiguity coupled with the vague use of personal pronouns was bold and executed masterfully.”

“What a relief it is to not have a completely heteronormative main character with a love interest for once, and to also have it executed so damn well. Shame’s identity is kept under wraps masterfully by the author and I almost hope she never reveals it.”

“This book sucked me in as soon as I opened it. I swung from feeling pity and heartache for Shame, to hating the character, and back again. After whipping through it in under a week, I can honestly say the novel didn’t disappoint in the least–my main problem is desperately wanting the second and third installments in the trilogy to be written NOW so I can read them!’

“The Witch” Conjuring up Controversy

February 23, 2016 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

Want an authentic horror experience? How about watching a film endorsed by The Satanic Temple itself?

the-witch-feature

Maybe 10 years ago it might have been very, very different, but in a more accepting world, there’s no such thing as bad publicity. Take for example The Witch, a 2015 Sundance film that’s catapulted from its indie genre to become a the-witch-movie-posterfavorite among critics and classic horror filmgoers alike. Even The Satanic Temple have stepped forward to give film studio A24 the “evil” thumbs up.  Making the film even more controversial, The Satanic Temple feels that The Witch is an invitation for a satanic uprising versus bigoted superstitions in a new era of unfettered inquiry and liberation.

So, why is the renowned bastion of Satanism declaring its love for the movie? Jex Blackmore, the national spokesperson for The Satanic Temple, has a lot to say. The fact that the plot of the movie centers around a patriarchy steeped in Christian tradition has a lot of holes in it, or that a lead female figure in a male-driven society is a rich plot in itself. The Witch is all about a teenage girl, one whose family thinks she’s a supernatural being; as horror films go, this almost certainly does not end well.

An interesting factoid is that A24 themselves called The Satanic Temple’s attention to how their film could be considered a “point of interest”. The studio even let the group host a screening or two, replete with rituals performed after the show ended. How did their perennial rival, Christian culture respond to this interesting endorsement? With little publicity, it seems. That, or until the mainstream gets ahold of the film and gives it a viral property. The The Witch movie goat headchurches have been keeping mum about boycotting pop culture in particular, and have concentrated more on tending to their own flock, reminding them about the dangers of consuming these types of content.

That being said, horror fans can sit back and watch The Witch deliver a “satanic experience”.

NOTE: Jex Blackmore claims she is not in league with the devil, and even goes so far as to say that the biblical Satan does not exist, instructing Christians: “To those Christians whose minds are enslaved by biblical mythology we say: Don’t waste your prayers on us.” Christian Post
