Paranormal Activity 4 Now on Netflix

October 11, 2013 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

paranormal activity 4

From Netflix: The chilling saga of the young and psychotic Katie turns a new page, and the homicidal spirit she embodies claims a new gallery of victims. As the atmosphere goes from strange to stranger, a mysterious husband, wife and child move in down the block.

The Netflix promotional statement has a little too much bravado for the latest installment of the Paranormal Activity film series.  “Die Hard” fans will be ok with it, especially if you enjoy the teen “cuteness” of Alex (Kathryn Newton). Likely the weakest of the series, it delivers a little scar when Alex gets locked in the garage.  You can feel a claustrophobic sensation and rooting for her to get out.

Paranormal Activity dates back to 2007 with wide-spread release in 2009.  The films involve a family haunted by an evil spirit that not only terrifies family and friends, but murders as well.  The visual aspect is produced by camcorders and security surveillance cameras.

Paranormal Activity 3, 4, and 4 (unrated edition) are all available on Netflix.   The premiere of Paranormal Activity is not currently available on Netflix, and #2 is claimed to be available, but it apparently is not.

There are at least two more films planned in the film series and a potential spin-off all due out in 2014.

Children of a Darker Dawn set for DVD and Digital Release

October 10, 2013 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

Children of a Darker Dawn (formerly titled Railway Children) is set for DVD and Digital release in North America on December 17th.  The movie is a teen Sci-Fi/Horror movie from October Eleven Pictures.

The producers claim Children of a Darker Dawn as “the first of an edgy series of features exploring the darkest corners of the Emerald Isle.”

The film was written, produced and directed by Irish Film and Television Award nominated director Jason Figgis. Among October Eleven Pictures’ earlier films, Figgis’s acclaimed occult documentary The Twilight Hour was sold for broadcast by Pop Twist Entertainment in 100 territories worldwide, and aired as part of an acclaimed art series on RTÉ Network 2 in Ireland.

In Children of a Darker Dawn, a virus has decimated the adult population, driving parents insane and then into death. Small children and teens are left to watch the horror unfold, and then to fend for themselves. Sisters Evie (Catherine Wrigglesworth) and Fran (Emily Forster) travel from town to town, foraging for food and carrying memories of their mother (Jennifer Graham).

Finding overnight shelter in a derelict building, they are awoken by shouts… and a battle between the newcomers and a teen commune with a dark past of its own begins. The tense atmosphere explodes into violence and bloodshed. Teen romances, sexual jealousies, and sadistic cliques inflame a grisly struggle for food. It’s the road to a grim new civilization.

Pop Twist is looking for international release partners.

Evil Dead 2 Now Available on Netflix

October 2, 2013 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

Evil Dead IINetflix has been doing a fairly decent job of feeding the horror craving with a broad selection of movies.  Today, Neflix anounced it has just added an older classic – Evil Dead 2 in HD.

Evil Dead 2 is about a couple stranded in a cabin in the woods, Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his girlfriend.  The two accidentally invoke a spell that causes the Evil Dead to rise and kill!  Ash is confronted in the night by hordes of walking corpes.  The movie is not all horror and has some laughs by Campbell blended in.  It is a cult horror clasic that you will want to see again (if it’s been awhile).  And a real treat for first timers!
