August 3, 2016 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

Patient-Seven-Feature

In October of 2015, genre distributor Terror Films announced that principal photography had begun on an Untitled Horror Anthology, now titled PATIENT SEVEN. The structure of the anthology includes a wrap-around, written by Barry Jay Stitch (The Chosen) and directed by horror veteran Danny Draven (Ghost Month, Reel Evil), which intertwines 7 award winning, short films by filmmakers from around the globe.

The filmmakers include: Nicholas Peterson, Paul Davis, Ómar Örn Hauksson, Dean Hewison, Erlingur Ottar Thoroddsen, Joel Morgan, Johannes Persson and Rasmus Wassberg. The cast includes: Amy Smart (Just Friends, The Single Mom’s Club), Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones, John Wick), Doug Jones (Pan’s Labyrinth, Crimson Peak), among others.

The wrap around stars veteran actor and genre favorite, Michael Ironside (Scanners, Total Recall) as Dr. Marcus. Marcus, a renowned psychiatrist, has selected 6 severe mentally ill and dangerous patients from the Spring Valley Mental Hospital, to interview as part of research for his new book. As Dr. Marcus interviews each patient, one by one the horrors they have committed begin to unfold. However, Dr. Marcus soon learns that there is one patient who has been kept from him by the hospital’s administrator, Dr. Vincent – played by Jack Plotnick (Drawn Together, Reno 911!: Miami).

Johnny Depp Stars As “The Invisible Man” In New Horror Film Reboot

July 1, 2016 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

johnny-depp-invisible-manCult classic horror fans, unite! Johnny Depp is taking the lead character in the classic revival of the 1933 hit horror film “The Invisible Man”, which will be produced by Universal Pictures. Can you say “easiest movie character role ever”?

Johnny Depp is a celebrated Hollywood actor who has several huge movie titles under his belt. Some of these movies include Pirates of the Caribbean, Edward Scissorhands and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. The first time that Depp’s name surfaced was after Universal Pictures announced a series of classic horror film remakes taken from the 30’s and 40’s era to be made under the Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe. Johnny Depp was offered the lead role in The Invisible Man, while Hollywood actor Tom Cruise takes the lead in “The Mummy”, which is scheduled to be released early June of 2017.

So what are fans expecting on this new rehash of the old horror classics our ancestors enjoyed on the silver screen? The movie will still be based upon H.G. Well’s science fiction novel of the same name, and you can bet that an adaptation for modern audiences will be in place. Talks have come up about who would be in charge of the script, with Universal putting together a writer’s room for the entire Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe, with Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan leading the crew. You may know Kurtzman for his work on Star Trek: Into the Darkness and TV series Sleepy Hollow. Chris Morgan and the rest include Jon Spaihts and Eric Heisserer, Jay Basu, Ed Solomon, Aaron Guzikowski and Noah Hawley, each with their own film assignments in the collection of monster movies. The group of writers has been preparing for their respective scripts while immersing themselves on classic horror films from the studio and Hammer Films production library.

Note that this is the original B&W trailer… (NOT Johnny Depp)

https://youtu.be/tjkSNMjhKB4

The original movie was directed by James Whale with the Invisible Man portrayed by Claude Rains. Rains was mostly present on screen as a disembodied voice, or as a person who was covered in bandages. The only time he appeared in actuality was when the classic film was near the end.

The Invisible Man features a scientist who has had a breakthrough formula for being completely invisible. This “invisibility” formula has a dangerous side effect- it eventually drives a man insane. The power held by a mere mortal becomes too much to handle, and the mad scientist plans to do everything in his power to be normal again, no matter the price.

There are several major differences in the transition from novel to film- the novel sees Dr. Griffin as completely alone while the film shows him with a considerable social status and wealth. There’s also the motivation for being invisible- the film portrays it as a dangerous side effect while the novel shows the invisibility as a means to a mad cause. The film’s ending is also fundamentally different from the novel. The question begs to be asked: will it be the same or a different take altogether? Will it be a horrific success of a cult classic? We all can’t wait to find out!

“The Midnight Man” Upcoming Horror Movie in September

April 2, 2016 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

the-midnight-man-featureFilming is complete in Manitoba, Canada for an independent horror movie called The Midnight Man.  Not to be confused with the already 2016 released crime thriller of the same title. The production crew has been tight-lipped about the upcoming film, but there have been credible speculations about what to expect. An Irish movie by the same name was released in 2013, so this film will very likely be a North American-style remake.

The Irish film was about a naive girl forced to spend Halloween alone at her grandmother’s house. She begins looking for a remedy for her boredom and admits to a friend on the phone that she adores the rush of a good scare. She paces her grandmother’s home, reenacting the classic Bloody Mary summoning spell, but when nothing interesting comes of it, she goes searching for a new activity to occupy herself. The thrill-seeking teenager discovers a Pagan game in which she can summon the mysterious Midnight Man. After inviting the mysterious entity into the home, the goal is to survive the night by evading his tricks and wickedness, armed only with a mere circle of salt. The girl soon finds that her seemingly-innocent game could be something far more sinister.

Ok, now what is official is that two of the best horror actors in the business have signed on to the film. Robert Englund, aka Freddy Krueger, will be starring in The Midnight Man, though it hasn’t been announced what character he’ll be playing. It won’t be the villain; that role has been filled by Kyle “Too Tall” Strauts. The 6’9″ actor is no stranger to the horror scene and was a stuntman in Cabin Fever. Also starring in the upcoming indie is iconic scream queen, Lin Shaye. Shaye has appeared in plenty of horror flicks including Insidious, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Ouija. With a terrific team of seasoned artists, The Midnight Man is sure to be worth the watch.  The Midnight Man is slated for release on September 30, 2016.

Wolf Mother First Trailer Released

March 6, 2016 By Horror Palace Leave a Comment

Wolf-Mother-Movie-Poster-2Riding Hood Motion Pictures releases the haunting first look teaser trailer of the noir crime thriller, Wolf Mother. The cross genre film, which is written and directed by Erik Peter Carlson (The Toy Soldiers) stars: Najarra Townsend (Contracted), New York stage actor Kevin Pinassi, star of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” revival – Tom Sizemore, (Saving Private Ryan), ex-con actor Dave Vescio (Hick) and horror genre star and veteran Maria Olsen.

The 1 minute teaser provides the first glimpses of heroes, Townsend and Pinassi, as they mastermind a scheme to find the celebrity child star, Kaitlin Miller, played by newcomer, Kaegan Baron. With gorgeous noir photography, the teaser explores the horror and suspense of their journey, as well as a peak of the Mansonesque clan behind the kidnapping in the captivating opening moments.

Carlson says of the film’s plot and its relevancy: “I’m drawn to stories that in someway are connected to the current state of mind. Stories that are happening now, in our own backyard. Most of the time for me, they just happen to be the darker stories.” Some of that darkness can be seen right now, in the film’s first trailer.
