As he drew her into an embrace, she caught a glimpse of his knife. It was too late. He cut out her heart, leaving a hole in the shape of a blood red rose.
Placing her body in the water to sink to the depths, he felt complete. Her heart was his at last.
She was just getting over her boyfriend’s death, the last thing she needed was news of a zombie outbreak. It sounded so ridiculous – this only happened in movies, didn’t it?
But it was true, the virus had spread and cases of zombification were being dealt with all across the city. She couldn’t help but wonder whether he recently deceased love would return.
That night, she awoke to scraping against her windows and she knew it was him. There he was. Bloody, rotting, dead but… somehow alive. ‘He still sees me,’ she thought as the window smashed and his teeth drew closer. She closed her eyes and whispered ‘take me with you’.

Distraught, she plunged the stake into her own chest. ‘Never data a vampire,’ she thought as she slipped away.
