No film exploits the jeopardy of everyday life quite like the gore-horror film Final Destination. Beginning with seemingly ‘run-of-the-mill’ accidents- roller coaster fates to racetrack explosions, and escalating to the very bizarre deaths- fans are introduced to the maze of just how far Final Destination will go to punish those who cheat death. Ultimately, one can only cheat death so many times.
The sixth movie in the franchise film Final Destination has long been rumored to become a reality, but despite recent reports made by key actors from the film, nothing has come to fruition. Is death perhaps enjoying its time off? Well, it’s been almost five years since Final Destination 5 hit the theatres, and aficionadas can’t seem to let the fatalities rest in peace.
Tony Todd, best known as Candyman, recently told fans at Texas Frightmare that the script for the film was written and that shooting would commence before the end of this year. As a recurring actor in the hit franchise, his word seemed reliable enough to confirm the long overdue wait.
Unfortunately, none of it is true. Producers have denied Todd’s claims that Final Destination 6 was to be released by the end of summer. As of this writing, there are no actual details as to when the movie will indeed start filming. In fact, there isn’t any major progress the promising sequel has made as of now.
But this doesn’t necessarily mean that Final Destination 6 won’t shape up, just probably not as soon as Tony Todd supposes. Would he really tell his fans about a possible release if he knew nothing at all? Certainly not. Maybe the producers were exploring the possibilities of production, and Todd snitched on the thought before final decisions were made.
The wind-up of Final Destination 5 managed to wrap the franchise full circle together, so the idea of another release was almost unforeseen. However, fans can rest assured that the film is far from dead; after all, it is a prisoner of its own formula. Meanwhile, they can share the love of the film on socials and keep the fire burning as New Line continues to do what they do best.
