“Don’t Judge A Book by Its Cover.”
By Sebastion Terrick
Isn’t it odd how some of the most beautiful and handsome people, can turn out to actually be deadly serial killers? That are blood thirsty for the screams of pain and agony that come from other people’s mouths? Well I had the wonderful opportunity to have this kind of experience, here is my Story.
It was March 26, 2006. Everyday I would wake up a 6 am and go to the kitchen and make myself a bowl of cereal, the racket that I would make always seemed to cause my parents to wake up, like it was some kind of preset alarm or something.
After I was done eating my cereal I went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth, changed my clothes, put my deodorant on, and packed my schoolbag so i was all set and ready to go, when I was finished all usually i would have about 30 minutes or so to play on my nintendo 64 that I had recently gotten for christmas along with the nintendo Super Mario 64.
But today I felt like getting to school a little bit earlier then usual, not because i had to, but because i wanted to. I told my parents goodbye and to have a good day and they did the same, I began my walk passed the parks and through the forest
this forest was called “The Multitree Forest” It was named that because of the fact that it had 5 different kind of trees in a almost circle like shape that lead directly to the right side of the school. The types of Trees that were there are: Oak, Birch, Spruce, Acacia, and Evergreen.
I walked up the right side of the school until I reached the doors of the school itself. I walked inside and up to the 3rd floor where my 1st period class was, “Civics and Career” i thought to myself annoyed since it was the most hardest of all courses.
The teacher arrived and then the students slowly began to step into the classroom one by one each arriving 2 to 3 minutes after the other, some would even come in pairs. Before I even realized it the class was full, but one desk was missing. “Hmm weird” I mumbled through my lips.
“Good Morning Everyone” Mr. Gieselman, our civics teacher, said to the class, half of the class sighed in annoyance, while the other half either waved , said good morning back or just didnt respond at all.
“Now Before we begin I would like to tell you that there will be a new student joining us today so please make her feel welcome and comfortable” The teacher said, as he was saying that a girl walked into the classroom and stepped up to the front next to our teacher.
“Please welcome Millie Schmitts” The teacher said in delight with a big smile across his face. A girl about the same height as me, and if you were wondering, 5 foot 3 had stepped into the classroom and walked up next to the teacher with a big smile on her face. Mille had big brown eyes, Long brown hair that was braided into a pony-tail, she had skin white as a person who never had gotten a sun tan before.
She was also wearing a clear white shirt, some blue jeans, and some white running shoes. Now, her desk was all the way the back left corner of the class room and my desk was in the front right hand corner, near the classroom door.
“Excuse me Sir?” Millie said as the teacher starred at her with a look that said “Yes? what is it?”. “May I switch seats I can’t see the Chalkboard from all the way back here.” “Sure, does anybody want to switch seats with Millie?” the teacher asked the class. Nobody raised their hand, so, naturally, with me having a heart of gold, I was about to raise my hand…until the kid next to me raised his hand.
It was one of the school nerds named, Dexter oak. The teacher thanked Dexter for his kindness and switched places with Millie. She was now Sitting In the desk that was directly on the left of me.
“Oh my god Im sitting right next to the girl and she’s hot!” I began fanboying in my head, and for the next hour and a half of the class I was lost in my thoughts about how wonderful it would be to become her friend and slowly make our way through life.
Just then, the bell rang and snapped me back into reality. As I got up from my desk I noticed she was talking to Dexter. The one that had previously switched desk with her, now unlike most kids I have better hearing then others so i could kind of hear what they were saying.
Most of it sounds like mixed letters, but at one point i heard Millie thank Dexter for switching desk with her. Dexter began to stutter and try to say the words “Your welcome” but failed miserably she laughed and called him cute.
He began to blush. “Probably because thats the first time a girl has ever complimented him, and not on April fools day” i thought to myself while trying to holding in a chuckle.
and magically somehow she was in my 3 other periods sitting right next to me in all my other 3 classes. At the end of the day, I noticed her begin to walk on her way home sort of down the way I walk to get back home.
I managed to get the courage to catch up to her and say “Hi” In an excited, but nervous voice. She looked at me and said “Hello!” In a cheery, playful voice “So your the new kid huh?” I asked her as if i hadn’t known already. “yeah, this town is really nice, fully of nice people, places, and the town in general is just amazing”
“Hell yeah it is” I replied, agreeing with what she just had said. “So what is your name?” she asked “My name is Sebastion Atwood, but you can call me Sebastion, or Seb if you want doesn’t really matter to me, but most people call me Seb.” “Wow thats a cool name” she said “really? wow thanks no one has ever really said that before” i said while stuttering. “Awe well we all need a compliment from time to time” she said. “True, True” i said as nodded my head up and down slightly.
As we walked through the Multitree Forest, the ones with the 5 different trees in the same area. I noticed her look near the acacia tree and begin to stare.
“Hey is something wrong?” I said with a concerned voice. “Oh, what? Oh, no no, everything is fine.” She spoke “I just zoned out a bit that’s all.
“Oh okay” I replied, still confused and curious about what she zoned off about. We arrived at the back of the Multitree forest where the sidewalks, and roads were.
“Well I guess Ill see you tomorrow” I said as I slowly made my way down the right side of the sidewalk.
“Yeah definietly! Have a good day!” she yelled as she ran down the left side of the side walk.
My heart was pounding. No girl had ever walked with me before, nor talk to me for that matter. I mean don’t get me wrong i always tried to talk to girls. but they would just moan in annoyance and walk away and go somewhere else.
It was about 4 pm When i had arrived home. I opened the door, closed it and locked it, Sat my bag down on the couch and began playing on my nintendo 64. It was Friday and usually on Fridays we don’t have homework.
It was about 6 pm when my dad had arrived home, my mom didn’t have a job so she just stayed home cleaning the house, when my dad got in he sat down next to me and asked if it was okay if he checked the news for a minute.
I said yes, because it was only understandable that he watched the news so he can make sure he doesn’t get into any kind of accident later on when he goes to work. When the tv switched to the news channel we notice there were 5 pictures of children or teenagers whichever term you prefer to use.
To my surprise there was a picture of Dexter Oak, I found it odd that he hadn’t been to school for the pass few days, i thought he had just gotta sick or had missed his bus. Shocked, I continued to read the names.
“Sadie Birch, Caleb Spruce, Gaten Acacia and Noah Evergreen.” I thought to myself, quickly I grabbed my notebook out of my schoolbag along with a pen and wrote the names of the children down my dad turned to look a me, slightly confused about what i was doing. With little-to-no thinking time i said “What? you never seen a kid write names about other kids that went missing on the news before?” He chuckled at me then turned his head back to the News on the TV.
I had been a big fan of Mystery Books and Unsolved sightings ever since I could remember so it was only Natural for me to try and solve real-life issues such as the missing children and what had actually happened to them. My dad chuckled a bit then turned into a little laugh, then back to a chuckle and then stopped laughing all together leaving only a smile that quickly faded away.
“What’s so funny?” I asked my dad “Oh don’t worry its just that all those kids of have the last names of some trees.” he said back. I hadn’t even noticed it. My dad was a police-in-training and trying to work his way up to become a detective.
I went to my room and reviewed the names of the kids, I couldn’t put it together I didn’t understand what it meant. The next day was the same routine as usual, woke up, breakfast, etc, etc. I arrived at my school at the time i always did. 8 am.
Children began coming into class faster then usual, “odd” I thought, until I realized that their faces looked more frightened then usual. The teacher came in with a more depressed look on his face then usual. He was also a happy man, but today was different.
“So as all of you might know, 5 children that went to our school have recently went missing. Including Dexter. If anyone knows any information of their whereabouts please, Inform us about it. Their parents are worried sick.”
That same announcement was said in the other 3 of my classes, with the same sad expression, and the same sad tone of voice. The teachers seemed concerned, and not because they could potentially lose their job, but they seemed like they really cared about these students.
At the end of my 4 period class, I got up to put my bag on when all of a sudden Millie had tapped me on the shoulder, as if saying “Hey, I want to ask you something”. I turned around to see her standing there in a casual t-shirt and jeans, along with the white running shoes.
“Hey I was wondering if you wanted to hang out after school, I could really use some help with my math homework.” She said while stuttering and blushing. “Of course if you don’t want to or your to busy thats fine.” She also managed to say.
“Sure ill help you.” I replied. I couldn’t believe it, A girl is actually asking me to help her with her Math homework.I was one of the best students at Math in my Math class. so good that I had gotten a 34/34 on my algebra test without using a calculator that was required. and I still scored the highest out of all the kids. “Could we do it at my house? my parents wouldn’t mind.”She said in excitement. “Sure, just let me call my parents and let them know where I’m heading” I replied back in the same excited voice.
I grabbed my phone out of my bag and proceeded to leave a voice message letting her know I’m going to be helping a friend with some Math homework.
We walked down the usual path back home, except this time we both went left. We arrived at her house, it almost looked like mine except taller and thinner. She grabbed the house keys out of her pocket and unlocked the door and held the door open for me, almost as if gesturing for me to come in, i walked inside and so did she.
She turned the lights on for the living room and to my surprise it actually looked pretty nice. “Oh my dad left his eraser back in the basement could you get it for me? Im kinda scared of going down in the basement.” she said nervously. “I mean sure” I replied “How scary could it be?” I said arrogantly as I reach the floor of the basement I looked around for the eraser.
The basement was quite a small place, with only a few boxes, washing machine and dryer. I looked around carefully only to find that there was no eraser just then i heard multiple thuds come down the stairs 1 second from each other. Before i knew it, there was a puff of pink like smog, i fell unconscious, the last thing I saw was Millie standing at the top of the stairs, starring at me with a grin of a serial killer’s.
I slowly began to open my eyes only to find myself tied to a poll with some rope. “W-wha” i tried to speak but failed miserably and began coughing like crazy still waking up from the gas that had knocked me out. The coughing eventually stopped. “Oh your awake!” A female like voice said in excitement.
It was Millie. The shock of that realization woke me up enough that i could speak. “What the hell happened?¡ Where the hell am I?! What the hell is this?!” I yelled out as she stuffed some tape over my mouth to keep me from yelling.
“Hehe, now, now, we don’t need people hearing us, do we?” She said happily with a grin that looked like one of a serial killer. “Don’t worry you’ll see your friends very, very soon.” as she was saying that she flipped a switch that turned on some lights only to reveal that it was the 5 children that had been missing, Dexter, Sadie, Caleb, Gaten and Noah. They seemed to appear lifeless. Dead.
“But I’m not just going to kill you right off the bat like the others….No, no. Im going to make it more fun and interesting.” She said with a sadistic voice. “Ill be right back. Now, now, don’t go anywhere.” “Oh and by the way,” She turned to look at me with the same grin she gave me at the top of those basement stairs, “Never, ever judge others just because they seem nice.” She Giggled in a cute, girly like voice with the same sadistic smile on her face. She slammed what looked like a trap door with stairs leading upwards into the ceiling.
While she was talking I managed to get the rope loose enough so that i could get my hands free and untie the stupid rope.
I got up, terrified, looking around the place for anything that could come in handy, I noticed there was a small piece of somewhat circular piece of wood in the corner of the room. It was like 3/4th’s of a circle. The one corner was what looked like bitten off. I ran over to grab it and pick it up to use it as a shield anyways, that way in case she had a knife she would only stab the wood, at least i hoped so.
I heard the door unlocking and got into possession to get ready to charge and tackle her to the ground so I could escape easier. The door open only to reveal half of her sadistic demented face burnt to a crispy charcoal black with a blow torch in her right hand. I managed to succeed in charging at her and knocking the knife out of her hand along with the other weapons she had in her bag.
While she was knockdown I began running like I never had before. She yelled at me to get back there. me being the sarcastic person I am even in the most horrible situations ever I yelled backed “No!” I managed to make my way back home to find my mom and dad staring at me with shocked and startled faces.
At this point I was trying to catch my breath but only began to pant and say a few words every 5 seconds or so. My parents asked me what happened and i told them everything. Now, I was an honest kid, and for me to lie about something like that would be stupid.
I had absolutely no reason to lie about that kind of stuff. So my dad called the cops and asked me where it happened I told him in the bushes behind the Acacia Tree in the Multitree forest. He told the cops everything that i had told him and my mom and we all got in the car and drove to that spot again.
Only to find that there was a huge forest fire around the place i had just escaped. “What the hell….” I said out loud so my parents could hear. Then it struck me. The Blow Torch. She was holding it in her right hand when i had knocked her to the ground.
Now that I had regained a bit of my breath, I told my parents that I think she might of started the fire to get rid of all the evidence, Fire Fighters began to douse the fire with water from their firehose and in a matter of minutes the fire was all gone, all that was left was a giant pile of ashes, my dad saw the door way in the ground which he presumed was the place I escaped before I could tell him that he was right, he ran over there and opened the door and went down along with some policemen and firefighters.
What they found were the heads of the 5 children placed in a circle-like shape. Scarred by what they had seen they came back up and confirmed that it was indeed the 5 children. Just the another fire began near the house millie lived at.
Millie’s house had caught on fire, “Probably started by her to get rid of more evidence” I thought to myself. Only this time the fire left barely any evidence, the fire took almost everything with it. all that remained was a letter, a pen and the burnt body of Millie Schmitts.
The letter read:
“Whoever is reading this. I guess you found out my secret huh? its interesting really, how some of the most people you think aren’t insane murders, actually are. This goes to prove a point. You can’t just judge other by the way they act around you. People who are judgemental need to be burned in hell for what they have judged. Never, Ever, Judge a book by its cover, who knows..the cover might be a bomb in disguise.
As I finished reading the letter, my face began to grow a scared, horrified, mortified expression. Later that night, they began to talk about it on the news and not naming the serial killer, nor the person who found out the serial killer’s names.
I really would like to tell the children in my class what i had experienced but they either might not believe me, or just think I’m an annoying idiot and ignore me. But they don’t know the truth…..Only me and my family do, along with the all the policemen and firemen that where there that day.
